In preparation for his next EP, Jahail talks with us about the inspiration he tries to give his listeners. As he quietly begins to build fame his future aspirations and goals will set itself apart from others.
1. How do you define/describe your music to people?
My music is something of a short novelty, where you get bits and pieces of a story, but never the full deal. I like to incorporate things to my own liking, wether that may be a melody or moody gesture at some parts and the next very exciting and aggressive. It’s to be taken as a moment of time, I try to take people back to that moment I was in when I first created the song, only then you can relate or get some type of understanding of what I am trying to express.
2. Who influences/inspires you?
I’m sure I have a list of people but I’ll try to keep it short. People such as Kendrick Lamar, the way he creates stories and being so much for the culture. His music is really captivating. Along with others such as: MJ, Kid Cudi, Kanye West, Isaiah Rashad, Joey Bada$$, Clairmont The Second, Travis Scott and more. I’m really into all types of music and draw a little inspiration from who I’m really listening too at the moment. Every artist is unique in their own way, which I love.
3. What are some current projects you are working on?
I am currently working on a EP titled “ANTI SOCIAL”. The whole idea behind it is that, it’s me proving that there are many things I can do on my own. Prove to myself and others that I can actually deliver a body of work and not just say I will. It’s also a lot of built up anger/tension and mixed feelings that I’ve never been able to express so with this EP I can finally do that. This will actually be my first project release and I feel good about it so far.
4. What are some of your long term goals with music?
Being an Artist from Toronto, my long term goal is to be able to take my music elsewhere, outside of the city. My mother always told me growing up that I would never be able to do so, not because she didn’t believe in me, but because of the idea of only Drake being the city’s “go-to” for Toronto music. But I feel like that has changed and shouldn’t stop me or anyone from being able to break out from this box people try to set us in. My goal is to be able to make a full time living off this instead of working two jobs to support the music I now make.
5. Who would you like to possibly collaborate with in the future?
Oh man, there are so many dope artists…I’d love to work with Travis Scott, he has to be one of the first people I’d work with in the industry, I feel like he has a lot to offer and some people really overlook is actual work. I’d also love to work with Schoolboy Q or Kendrick, someone from the TDE Family, I’ve been watching them for years now and their craft and music as a whole is phenomenal. Kanye West because I mean, c’mon thats “YE” right there no explanation needed! If I could work with Lauryn Hill, that would be crazy. Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Justin Bieber, Tory Lanes. There are a lot of talented people, and it’s not even just about collaboration, I feel like if two people can come together and connect on a level to create something that feels good, then why not.
