Hitting a Nerve with NERVISUALS

Growing up in Southern California and being surrounded by so many talented and crafty people, it was very hard expressing your talent until you had a true meaning of effecting people with it. Darren(NERVISUALS), truly defines the street cultured, strong rooted, creative guy you can see shooting nearly anything in any location. He’s the type of artist anyone would want in any atmosphere just based off of the type of positive and creative vibes he can give to any situation.

Knowing Darren for the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to follow along with his work as it continuously grew and to this day, still does. We got to pull a few questions out of the interview we had with Darren recently… Lets get to know him a little.

Tell us a little bit about who “NERVISUALS” is.

NERVISUALS comes from a strong graffiti background. Growing up I was very active in the graffiti movement and I used to write NERV. Growing up a lot of people used to tell me “damn kid, you got a lot of nerve” and ever since then it just stuck.

What inspired you to pick up a camera?

17 months ago my buddy Jordan sold me my first camera (Nikon D3100) for $200. Initially I just wanted to try and make some side cash but 3 months later I decided to quit my job and strictly freelance.

Are planning on doing anything more with your creative abilities other than photography?

I’m actually working on a few projects right now that I don’t really want to spoil but just know I’m working really really hard to give back to the art community. I’m always thinking of the next thing or next move, it’s always evolving into something greater.

What are some of your personal successes you’re proud of?

I’ve had the opportunity to work with so many people in such a short period of time. I think my top 3 would have to be Kevin Federline, Phora, and Corona.

How has Social Media inspired your photography?

Social media is a great tool to use to just network, find inspiration, and just spread love & positivity. The art community is so huge yet so small, it’s super rad to be able to communicate with people all over the world. I feel that all the support I get through social media just helps keep me driven! I know what it’s like to feel broken. I know what it’s like to hurt. I know what it’s like to feel like the whole world is against you. But for every struggle you endure in life just know there’s a brighter day. There’s a fresh start to something better awaiting you. If you’re feeling down and feel like there’s nothing to live for just know I’ve been there too. I’ve struggled through many negative things in life, still do today and still learning to cope. Life isn’t easy and I know that, but just know I love you and I truly mean that. If you’re reading this just know you are a beautiful peace of this world and times WILL get better.
